Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has brokered peace between Kano politicians Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila after a reconciliation meeting held in Kano.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to the statement, both political figures agreed to put aside their differences, forgive each other, and resume working together.
Rurum said the disagreement had been resolved and described their renewed alliance as a reunion of one family.
“The dispute has been settled, and we have now reunited as one family and will work together more than ever before,” he said.
He also appreciated Governor Yusuf for intervening and helping to restore peace.
Senator Kawu Sumaila, while speaking on the reconciliation, described the crisis as a misunderstanding caused by “the handiwork of Satan”.
“We are one family, and what united us is more than politics. We have family ties and other relationships beyond imagination. What happened was a misunderstanding, and we have resolved the differences, and it is indeed the devil’s work,” the senator stated.
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Umar Haruna Doguwa, urged supporters of both leaders to move past the dispute and focus on future political victories.
The reconciliation meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, APC officials, Senator Kawu Sumaila, and Rurum.
Both politicians also invited supporters to attend the affirmation of Senator Kawu Sumaila as the APC senatorial candidate for Kano South scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026.
