The Federal Road Safety Corps, Yobe State Sector Command, has appointed Idris Baba as its new sector commander.
Baba officially assumed duty on Tuesday in Damaturu, the state capital, succeeding Corps Commander Andrew Longkam as part of recent postings involving senior officers within the Corps.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Sector Public Relations Officer, Yau Mohammed.
“The Federal Road Safety Corps, Yobe State Sector Command, wishes to inform the general public of the appointment of Corps Commander Idris Baba as the new Sector Commander,” Mohammed said.
An indigene of Potiskum Local Government Area, Baba brings with him extensive experience in road safety administration. Prior to his new role, he served in several capacities within the FRSC, most recently as the Zonal Head of Motor Vehicles Administration in Bauchi.
Mohammed described him as “a seasoned officer with vast experience in road safety administration and traffic management.”
Speaking after taking over the role, Baba outlined key priorities for his tenure. He said his administration would focus on increasing the visibility of the Corps across the state and intensifying public enlightenment campaigns to promote safer road use.
He also emphasised the importance of training both personnel and drivers, improving emergency response systems, and ensuring the prompt removal of road obstructions to enhance traffic flow and safety.
In addition, Baba stated that the command would strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders, including transport unions, security agencies, and local communities, as part of a broader effort to improve road safety outcomes.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to accurate documentation and timely reporting of activities, while reaffirming ongoing efforts to reduce road crashes across Yobe State.
