The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced that no road traffic crashes involving articulated vehicles have been recorded along the Kugbo outbound corridor in Abuja since the introduction of Operation Safe Kugbo.
The enforcement exercise, which commenced on March 18, 2026, is part of efforts to improve road safety and ease traffic congestion along one of the Federal Capital Territory’s busy routes.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, the Corps revealed that 858 articulated vehicles and trucks have so far been restricted from operating along the corridor during peak hours.
According to the FRSC, the initiative has yielded significant compliance gains, supported by continuous monitoring and enforcement activities.
“The operation is driven by the strategic leadership of the Corps Marshal and is firmly rooted in the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations, particularly Section 223, as well as the FCT Traffic Regulations,” he said.
Ohaeri explained that the exercise is aligned with the Corps’ broader objectives for 2026, particularly its focus on reducing road traffic crashes nationwide.
“The operation aligns with the Corps’ 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal 1, aimed at drastically reducing road traffic crashes and improving road safety outcomes nationwide,” Ohaeri stated.
At the operational level, enforcement has been strengthened through coordinated patrols and real-time traffic management. The Unit Commander of RS7.13 Nyanya, CRC WF Luka, is leading the implementation on the ground.
“CRC WF Luka continues to lead a dedicated team of operatives in enforcing compliance through targeted patrols, strategic positioning, and real-time traffic management during peak periods,” the statement noted.
The Corps attributed the zero-crash record along the corridor to the effectiveness of restricting heavy-duty vehicles during peak traffic hours, describing it as a key factor in enhancing safety and traffic efficiency.
The FRSC added that the operation remains ongoing, with intensified monitoring to sustain the progress achieved so far. Motorists, fleet operators, and truck drivers have been urged to comply fully with the restriction directives.
“The Corps remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring safer roads across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond,” the statement added.
