Easter: IGP Deploys 250 Officers to Boost Benue Security

The Nigeria Police Force has stepped up security efforts in Benue State following the deployment of additional tactical personnel and specialised units by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

The reinforcement includes 14 units of specialised forces alongside 250 tactical officers, aimed at strengthening ongoing operations and enhancing safety across the state during the festive period.

Details of the deployment were disclosed in Makurdi by the command’s spokesperson, Edet Udeme, who noted that the units were drawn from multiple Police Mobile Force squadrons and specialised tactical teams.

According to her, the newly deployed personnel have been integrated with existing tactical units and other security agencies to improve coordination and response. Their operations will focus on securing rural areas, high-risk communities, and key public locations across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, commended the IGP for the timely intervention, describing it as a critical boost to the command’s capacity.

He also reassured residents of the police command’s preparedness to maintain peace and order before, during, and after the Easter celebrations.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant, obey the law, and support security agencies by providing useful and timely information. The police further encouraged the public to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security formation.
