The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area Command, has announced a major boost in export activities for March 2026, recording a 266 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Details shared by the command’s spokesperson, Chado Zakari, revealed that export volume rose to 277.8 metric tonnes with a Free on Board value of $383,100, up from 20 metric tonnes valued at $104,600 in March 2025.
The Acting Area Controller, Olukayode Afeni, attributed the growth to improved border monitoring, operational efficiency, and intelligence-led enforcement strategies aimed at promoting legal trade while curbing smuggling.
“Our dual focus on trade facilitation and enforcement has created a more conducive environment for exporters and strengthened confidence in the system,” he said.
As part of its enforcement efforts, the command intercepted 1,202 kegs of smuggled vegetable oil worth N120.2 million, while additional seizures in previous months further highlight ongoing anti-smuggling operations.
In a separate action, officials handed over 285 sacks of mica stones valued at N104.7 million to the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development after intercepting them during an operation.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to boosting legitimate exports while maintaining strict measures against illegal trade activities across border routes.
