Troops operating under Operation Whirl Stroke have moved to contain a fresh outbreak of communal violence between the Agbaka and Anyiase communities in Guma Local Government Area.
According to security sources, the soldiers—stationed in Ukpiam—were mobilised around 12:10 p.m. on May 1 after reports of escalating tensions and renewed hostilities between the two communities.
By the time the troops arrived at the scene, several houses had already been burned down by the attackers, who reportedly fled before security forces could engage them.
In response, the soldiers initiated a pursuit operation along the suspected escape routes in an effort to track down those responsible. However, no arrests had been confirmed as of the time of reporting.
To prevent further escalation, additional security personnel have been deployed to the area, with authorities maintaining a heightened presence to deter further violence.
Sources also indicated that investigations are ongoing as security agencies intensify efforts to identify the perpetrators and restore peace to the affected communities.
