Benue Declares One-Week Easter Holiday for Workers

The Benue State Government has approved a one-week public holiday for civil servants to celebrate Easter, giving workers extended time to observe the important Christian festival.

According to state authorities, the decision is intended to allow employees step away from work, travel if necessary, and spend meaningful time with their families during the festive period.

Easter, which marks the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, remains one of the most significant events in the Christian calendar and is widely observed across Nigeria. Officials noted that the break also provides an opportunity for spiritual reflection and personal renewal.

Residents have been encouraged to use the period to pray for peace, unity, and continued progress in the state, especially in light of ongoing security challenges.

Benue State has faced recurring tensions in recent times, particularly clashes between farmers and herders. In view of this, the government urged citizens to remain law-abiding and maintain peace throughout the holiday.

The announcement has been well received by many workers, who say the extended break will help them rest, recharge, and reconnect with loved ones. Some also believe the holiday could benefit local businesses, as increased travel and spending are expected during the period.

Despite the holiday, essential service providers including those in healthcare and security will remain on duty to ensure uninterrupted services.

Authorities also advised travellers to observe road safety measures while moving across the state.

The government reaffirmed the importance of Easter to residents, noting that the holiday reflects both its religious significance and its value as a time for rest and reflection.
