NRC Introduces Free Lagos–Osogbo Train for Easter

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has rolled out a special Easter timetable designed to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger movement during the holiday period. The plan includes additional trips on busy routes and the introduction of a free service on a key corridor.

As part of the adjustments, the Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS) will run three daily trips to ease congestion. Trains departing from Mobolaji Johnson Station in Ebute Metta, Lagos, are scheduled for 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. Meanwhile, services leaving Obafemi Awolowo Station in Moniya, Ibadan, will depart at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.

In addition, the corporation has introduced a special narrow-gauge train service between Lagos and Osogbo. This initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Osun State Government, will be offered free of charge.

The train will depart from Iddo Station in Lagos on April 3 at 10:00 a.m., with a return journey from Osogbo scheduled for April 6 at the same time.

Other major routes across the country will maintain their regular timetables. The Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) will continue operating two trips on Thursdays and three trips from Fridays through Mondays, covering morning, mid-day, and afternoon departures between Idu and Rigasa.

On the Warri–Itakpe route, train services will run daily except on Thursdays, which are reserved for maintenance.

Departures from Warri are scheduled for Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 8:00 a.m., while trains from Itakpe will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 12:00 noon.

Similarly, the Port Harcourt–Aba service along the Eastern narrow-gauge corridor will proceed without changes, with trains leaving Port Harcourt at 8:00 a.m. and Aba at 3:00 p.m.

The NRC assured passengers of safe and reliable travel throughout the Easter period. It also encouraged travellers to plan ahead, arrive early at stations, and comply with all ticketing and security procedures to ensure smooth operations.

The corporation extended Easter greetings to passengers and reiterated its commitment to providing dependable rail services across the country.
