Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have repelled a terrorist attack in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, killing several attackers during a gun battle.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred on March 27 around Iyarwya waterside, where troops acted on intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists.
The soldiers engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat before pursuing them across a river.
“Troops pursued the fleeing terrorists across the river, where they came under ambush,” Makama said.
During the encounter, one soldier was killed while another sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Makurdi for treatment.
