Security operatives under Operation MESA have disrupted illegal mining activities in Yagba West LGA of Kogi State, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of weapons and other items.
The development was disclosed by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, via a post on X.
According to his report, the operation took place around 1:00 p.m. on April 13 in Taki, following a joint effort between troops of 12 Brigade and local vigilante groups.
The suspects reportedly identified themselves as gold traders and members of the Miyetti Allah.
Recovered items included a locally fabricated pistol, ammunition, motorcycles, mobile phones, cutlasses, and cash totaling ₦68,100.
“The suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in military custody for further investigation and necessary action,” Makama said.
Authorities say the raid is part of a broader push to tackle illegal mining and associated criminal operations across the state.
