The New Nigeria People’s Party has highlighted the growing economic strain on Nigerian workers, drawing attention to rising inflation, escalating transportation and energy costs, and the increasing difficulty of meeting basic living standards.
In a message marking International Workers’ Day, the party’s National Chairman, Bala Yunusa Mohammed, conveyed solidarity with workers across the country, commending their perseverance in the face of economic hardship.
The statement, signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, emphasised that the party’s recognition goes beyond celebration, describing Nigerian workers as a symbol of resilience and determination.
“Despite the daunting economic headwinds, the rising cost of living, and the daily struggle to make ends meet, your dedication to keeping the wheels of this country turning is nothing short of heroic,” the party said.
While acknowledging this resilience, the NNPP cautioned that endurance should not replace progress, stressing that workers deserve a system that supports their welfare and rewards their contributions.
The party noted that as the country approaches a critical electoral period, workers must recognise their collective strength and influence in shaping governance.
“As we move further into this critical electoral cycle, the NNPP urges every worker, from the civil servant in the city to the laborer in the field, to recognize their collective power,” the statement added.
It continues, “To transform the standard of living in Nigeria, workers must move beyond mere survival and embrace political organization. We must ensure that the next crop of representatives and leaders are individuals who implement policies that drastically reduce the cost of living.
“Invest in social safety nets and infrastructure that ease the burden on the common man.”
Reaffirming its political stance, the NNPP said it remains committed to advocating for the welfare of ordinary Nigerians and promoting policies that improve quality of life.
“We stand for a New Nigeria where the dignity of labour is rewarded with a quality of life that reflects our nation’s vast potential. The strength of a nation lies in the hands of its workers.
“In the next few months, let your hands also hold the power of the ballot to elect a government sensitive to your plight and dedicated to raising the standard of living for every Nigerian family.”
