Troops engaged in Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD have arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities during a patrol in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident was made public by counter-insurgency and regional security expert Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the operation in a statement posted on X.
According to Makama, the arrests were carried out by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Babanna. The suspects were intercepted at Babanna Market at approximately 5:00 p.m. on April 20 during a routine patrol aimed at maintaining security in the area.
Following their arrest, security personnel recovered several items from the suspects. These included one round of 7.62mm special ammunition, two mobile phones, and other miscellaneous belongings.
The suspects have since been taken into military custody, where they are expected to undergo further questioning and investigation as authorities work to determine their level of involvement and any possible links to wider networks.
Makama explained that the operation forms part of broader, ongoing security measures being implemented to curb terrorist activities and strengthen safety across the region.
“The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to clamp down on terrorist activities and enhance security across the region,” Makama said.
