NDLEA Arrests 56 Suspects in Kano Drug Raids

The Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled several drug joints across the state and arrested 56 suspects during a three-day enforcement operation.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kano by the Command’s spokesman, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari.

Muhammad-Maigatari quoted the State Commander of the agency, Mr. Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, as saying that the suspects were apprehended during a series of raids carried out as part of the ongoing “Operation Ramadan Mubarak,” aimed at ensuring a safe and drug-free environment in Kano during and after the Ramadan period.

He explained that between February 6 and February 8, operatives carried out targeted operations in known drug hotspots, including Kofar Mata, Fagge, Kasuwar Rimi, Medile, Badawa, and Sabon Gari areas of the state.

According to him, the exercise also covered several other locations both within the Kano metropolis and in surrounding areas, with the aim of dismantling illegal drug distribution networks.

“The operation was a continuation of earlier enforcement efforts aimed at sustaining pressure on criminal networks that have long operated in these communities.

“The focused action was designed to disrupt drug distribution channels and restore safety to neighbourhoods affected by drug-related activities,” he said.

Yahaya-Lawal stated that during the raids, NDLEA operatives recovered a range of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam, and pregabalin, among other controlled drugs and related items.

He said the seizures dealt a major setback to local drug supply networks and reflected the command’s determination to eliminate illegal drug activities in the state.

The commander also revealed that one of the suspects arrested during the operation, a 30-year-old Yunusa Yasin from the Badawa area, was linked to a homicide case that occurred five years ago.

He said the suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Yahaya-Lawal reaffirmed the command’s commitment to making Kano drug-free in line with the agenda of the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa.

He also called on members of the public to continue providing credible information on drug-related activities to support the agency’s efforts to keep communities safe.
