A young man, suspected to be under the influence of drugs, allegedly set his family home on fire following a heated argument with relatives in Lagos.
A video circulating on social media in the early hours of Wednesday showed family members struggling to escape from the burning building as flames rapidly spread through parts of the house.
Some occupants could be heard shouting and calling for help while desperately trying to make their way out of the building.
The person who recorded the video claimed that the suspect, believed to be between 21 and 25 years old, had previously engaged in a fight with members of his family before the incident.
According to the narrator in the footage, the young man, described as a suspected drug addict, was seen wearing several chains around his neck before allegedly setting the house ablaze.
The narrator also alleged that the suspect vandalized property within the compound, including smashing the windscreen of a Lexus Prado car parked inside. Several household items were reportedly destroyed during the disturbance.
The suspect’s mother was observed outside the building in a state of panic, while other family members gathered around the compound as the chaotic situation unfolded.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were reportedly called to the scene and were seen actively working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
