NDLEA Intercepts Cocaine, Opioids Bound for UK, Australia

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted consignments of cocaine and opioids concealed inside cartons bound for the United Kingdom and Australia, while also carrying out major drug raids across several states.

According to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the illicit shipments were discovered during cargo inspections at a courier company in Lagos.

Operatives reportedly recovered 170 grams of cocaine hidden inside the walls of a carton containing clothes destined for Australia. Another package heading to the UK was found to contain 200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 tramadol capsules, and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection.

In Delta State, NDLEA officers raided farms in Ejeonu village, Ukwuani LGA, where they destroyed 27,500 kilograms of skunk spread across 11 hectares of farmland. A suspect identified as Ifeanyichukwu Peter, 52, was later arrested in Obiaruku.

Another operation in Orogun village, Ughelli North LGA, led to the destruction of 37,500 kilograms of skunk on 15 hectares of farmland and the arrest of 30-year-old Godwin Vincent Osadera.

The agency said both operations, carried out with military support, resulted in the destruction of 65,000 kilograms of skunk in total.

In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives recovered 361 kilograms of skunk during a raid in Zaria and arrested a suspect identified as Husaini Suleiman.

The agency also disclosed that officers intercepted 1,989 rounds of military-grade ammunition concealed inside bags of garri along the Abuja-Kaduna highway. The suspect, Abdullahi Hassan, 35, was reportedly handed over to another security agency for further investigation.

In Abuja, operatives arrested 29-year-old Ogadi Peter, alleged to be producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for social events. Authorities said 800 grams of skunk and 2.7 kilograms of drug-infused cookies were recovered from his residence in Life Camp.

Several other arrests and seizures were also recorded in Ogun, Taraba, Oyo, Edo, and Kano states as the anti-narcotics agency intensified nationwide operations against drug trafficking and abuse.

NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations for their continued efforts in tackling drug-related crimes across the country.
