A violent robbery incident in Kano State has left a teacher, Isah Sallama, critically injured after suspected motorcycle thieves severed his hand during an attack in Bunkure Local Government Area.
The incident took place on Wednesday night along Funkuyi Road in Buran District. According to a statement issued by Nasiru Habu Faragai of the Rano Emirate Council, the teacher was attacked while attempting to assist another victim.
Sallama, who resides in Sarkin Bakar Rano, had reportedly stepped in to help Malam Sauwanu Hadi, whose motorcycle and mobile phone were being stolen by the robbers at the time.
In the course of the confrontation, the attackers initially tried to shoot Sallama. However, when their firearm malfunctioned, they resorted to using a machete, with which they inflicted severe injuries, including cutting off his hand.
The incident was formally reported by the District Head of Bunkure, Alhaji Aminu Isa Umaru, to the Emir of Rano, Muhammad Isa Umaru.
Reacting to the development, the emir strongly condemned the attack and directed security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation with the aim of bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He also approved a donation of N100,000 to support Sallama’s medical treatment, describing the incident as deeply troubling.
The emir further urged community leaders and security agencies to intensify efforts to address rising cases of robbery and ensure improved safety within the area
