The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has rescued a 36-year-old woman from an alleged case of domestic abuse in the Asokoro Extension area of Abuja.
The agency disclosed that the rescue operation was carried out by its Rapid Response Squad after receiving credible information about the situation. Acting promptly on the intelligence, operatives moved in to secure the victim and remove her from what was described as an abusive environment.
According to the statement released on Thursday via the agency’s official X account, the suspect—identified as Mr. Godwin, a 48-year-old man and husband of the victim—was accused of physically assaulting her. The couple, both from Kenshishe in Benue State, have reportedly been married for 22 years.
NAPTIP confirmed that its operatives “successfully rescued the victim from the abusive environment and moved her to safety for necessary care and support.”
The agency further stated that it has “commenced necessary procedures to investigate the matter and ensure that all appropriate legal steps are taken” in line with its mandate to protect vulnerable individuals.
Reaffirming its commitment to tackling abuse and protecting human rights, NAPTIP emphasized that it “remains resolute in its determination to uphold the dignity, safety, and fundamental rights of all persons across the country.”
The agency also encouraged members of the public to report incidents of domestic violence and related offences, stressing the importance of timely intervention in preventing further harm.
