ISWAP Threatens Attack on Malam Fatori After Heavy Losses

A cleric linked to ISWAP has reportedly threatened a fresh attack on Malam Fatori after a recent failed assault in which about 75 terrorists were killed on March 18, 2026.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared this in a report on X, citing information from military sources.

According to the report, the cleric said to have led this year’s Eid Fitr prayers near Sabon Tumbu used the opportunity to issue a warning. During his sermon, he reportedly told followers that the group would soon strike back at Nigerian troops over recent military operations in Malam Fatori.

The source added that the cleric went as far as saying the town could be “reduced to ashes” in a retaliatory attack, emphasizing that such threats should be taken seriously and not brushed aside.

Malam Fatori has long been known as a strong resistance point against insurgents. Over time, the town has recorded several major victories against ISWAP fighters, earning it the nickname “Grave Yard of ISWAP” and a reputation as a difficult place for terrorists to operate.

Meanwhile, Nigerian troops, alongside other security agencies, have remained on high alert. They continue to strengthen their defenses in anticipation of any possible attack.
