Nigerian Army Disrupts ISWAP Operation in Borno

Troops of the Nigerian Army successfully prevented a planned overnight attack by suspected ISWAP/JAS fighters in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, reinforcing ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities in the region.

Details of the incident were shared on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama via a post on X, where he cited information from security sources familiar with the operation.

The situation unfolded at approximately 11:40 p.m. on April 27, when soldiers attached to the 162 Amphibious Battalion observed unusual movement around Mandaraguirau. The activity raised immediate concern, prompting heightened alertness among the troops stationed in the area.

According to the sources, the suspected insurgents were moving in a coordinated formation, riding an estimated 30 motorcycles. Their route reportedly cut through the Diwa Kamda and Diwa Mbula axis—areas known for such movements—before they were picked up by military surveillance systems.

Acting without delay, the troops engaged the approaching group with sustained firepower. The show of force disrupted the advance, compelling the attackers to abandon their approach before any direct confrontation could occur.

Faced with heavy resistance, the insurgents reportedly retreated, dispersing before they could execute their plan.

Security sources emphasized that the swift reaction by the military likely averted a larger, coordinated assault on the community, underscoring the importance of vigilance and rapid response in ongoing counterinsurgency operations.
