Gunmen Kill Driver, Abduct Passengers on Ore–Benin Expressway

Suspected gunmen have launched an attack on a commercial bus along the Ore–Benin Expressway, leaving the driver dead and several passengers abducted in what appears to be another case of highway insecurity.

The bus, reportedly operated by GUO Transport, was said to be en route to the eastern part of the country when it was ambushed by armed men.

According to initial reports, the attackers opened fire on the vehicle, killing the driver instantly before forcing passengers out and taking them into nearby bushes.

As of the time of reporting, security agencies have not released an official statement confirming the details of the incident. However, eyewitness accounts and videos circulating on social media indicate that the attackers carried out the operation in a manner consistent with previous kidnappings along the same route.

The Ore–Benin Expressway has for years been regarded as a vulnerable corridor, frequently targeted by criminal groups due to its strategic importance as a link between the South-West and South-South regions of Nigeria. Certain stretches of the highway have become notorious for repeated incidents involving abductions and armed attacks.

While the exact number of passengers affected remains unclear, the latest incident has heightened concerns among commuters and transport operators, many of whom are calling for increased security patrols and improved surveillance along the road.

Authorities are yet to confirm the full details of the attack or provide updates on any rescue operations, leaving families and the public awaiting further information.
