No fewer than 10 vigilante members have reportedly lost their lives after armed men attacked Damri town in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident was revealed on Wednesday in a post shared on X by security analyst Bakatsine, who raised concerns over the increasing violence affecting communities in the region.
According to the report, the armed assailants stormed the town and encountered resistance from members of the local vigilante group who attempted to defend residents and prevent further destruction.
The confrontation between both sides reportedly escalated into a deadly clash, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 vigilantes.
The latest attack is said to reflect the growing insecurity in several rural communities across Zamfara State and other parts of northwestern Nigeria, where local defence groups often confront heavily armed criminal gangs.
Commenting on the incident, Bakatsine noted that the continued violence between armed groups and community-based security outfits has left many residents living in fear and uncertainty.
He questioned how long civilians could continue to endure repeated attacks without stronger intervention and effective protection from security authorities.
