DSS Rescues Kidnapped Kano LG Secretary

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have rescued the abducted Administrative Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area in Kano State, Alhaji Hamza Durya, after a gun battle with his captors.

Security sources said the operation took place in Rano Local Government Area, where two suspected kidnappers were arrested, while two others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Durya was found at a hideout where he had been held since his abduction, which occurred days earlier at his residence in Durya village, Kibiya LGA.

The rescue was made possible through credible intelligence provided by residents, enabling DSS operatives to track the suspects and carry out a coordinated operation.

His abductors had reportedly demanded a ransom of N100 million, and were believed to be linked to criminal networks operating from Rijana, a known hotspot along the Kaduna–Abuja highway.

Sources also indicated that an insider may have played a role in facilitating the abduction.

The rescued official is said to be in stable condition and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.

Reacting to the development, the Kano State Government praised the DSS for the swift and successful operation.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the rescue and arrests as a major breakthrough in efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.

He noted that security agencies were promptly mobilized after the incident, leading to the successful outcome.

Waiya added that the operation highlights the commitment and professionalism of security forces, as well as the effectiveness of strategies being implemented to address insecurity across Kano’s 44 local government areas.

He also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for providing the necessary support to security agencies, strengthening their ability to respond to threats.

The commissioner reassured residents of the government’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

He added that the state would continue working with relevant stakeholders to enhance security across Kano State.

GoNews reported that the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area in Kano State, Alhaji Hamza Musa Durba, was abducted on Friday night by unidentified gunmen.
