Kano Deputy Governor Loses Court Bid to Halt Impeachment

A Federal High Court has declined a request by Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo to temporarily stop the impeachment process initiated against him by the Kano State House of Assembly.

In a ruling delivered on March 25, 2026, Justice S.M. Shaibu held that the deputy governor failed to meet the legal requirements for the court to grant an urgent order filed without first hearing the opposing parties.

The judge also directed Gwarzo to properly serve all relevant legal documents on the respondents to enable them respond to the case.

Meanwhile, the Kano State House of Assembly had earlier obtained its own interim order on March 11, 2026.

That order restrains the deputy governor from taking any steps that could obstruct the Assembly’s constitutional responsibilities, particularly those outlined under Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
