Gunmen have attacked Dangoro village in Bungudu LGA of Zamfara State, killing three people and destroying several homes and food storage facilities.
The incident, which occurred late on March 28, was confirmed by the state police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, in a statement on Monday.
According to him, the attackers stormed the community through Nahuche District, firing shots and setting houses and silos ablaze.
“Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of police operatives and vigilante members swiftly mobilised and responded to the scene.
“The team engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, successfully repelling the attack and forcing the criminals to flee into the bush with possible gunshot injuries.
“Regrettably, three people lost their lives during the incident, including a member of the Community Protection Guard.
“Additionally, five people sustained gunshot injuries, while four others suffered varying degrees of burn injuries.
“The bandits also burnt several houses, silos containing food grains, and livestock, including goats,” he said.
He added that the injured victims have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau for treatment and are responding well.
Abubakar also noted that security operatives are currently pursuing the attackers, while Commissioner of Police Ahmad Muhammad has assured residents of continued efforts to protect lives and property.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information.
