Six Spots Up for Grabs in 2026 World Cup Playoffs

Six remaining qualification spots for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be decided on Tuesday as teams battle it out in the final round of European and intercontinental playoffs.

The race includes four European slots and two places to be secured through intercontinental playoff finals, setting up a series of high-stakes fixtures.

In Europe, Kosovo will host Türkiye as they chase a historic first-ever World Cup appearance. Meanwhile, Italy face a crucial clash against Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the former desperate to avoid missing out on a third consecutive tournament.

Other key European ties will see Sweden go up against Poland, while Czech Republic take on Denmark.

In the intercontinental playoffs, Democratic Republic of Congo will face Jamaica, as both sides aim to secure one of the remaining tickets. The other playoff will see Iraq take on Bolivia.

Several nations are hoping to end long absences from the global tournament. Iraq have not featured since 1986, DR Congo since 1974 (when they competed as Zaire), Bolivia since 1994, and Türkiye since their impressive run in 2002.

With qualification on the line, the matches are expected to deliver intense competition as teams fight for a place on football’s biggest stage.
