Seven persons have been injured following the collapse of a two-storey building under construction in Jikwoyi, within the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, involving construction workers at the site.
According to the FCT Emergency Management Department, 17 workers were on the upper floor when the structure gave way, leaving several injured and one person briefly trapped before being rescued.
“All the injured workers, including the rescued victim, have been taken to the Sisters of Nativity Hospital in Jikwoyi and are responding to treatment,” said FEMD spokesperson Nkechi Isa.
Emergency responders, including the National Emergency Management Agency, Federal Fire Service, and other agencies, were deployed to the scene, while excavation continued to ensure no one remained trapped.
In a separate incident, a fire outbreak damaged part of a car dealership along the Kubwa Expressway in Bwari Area Council.
The blaze, which was linked to an electrical fault, destroyed sections of the building and equipment, though no casualties were recorded.
Emergency teams successfully contained the fire after staff had earlier attempted to control it and moved vehicles out to minimise losses.
