CAC Confirms Cybersecurity Breach, Moves to Contain Threat

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has acknowledged a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to segments of its database, an issue that has sparked concerns over the integrity of corporate records in Nigeria.

The confirmation was made in a statement posted on the commission’s official X account on Wednesday, where it explained that the breach was limited in scope and did not affect all aspects of its systems.

“The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is currently reviewing a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to limited aspects of its information systems,” the statement reads.

According to the commission, immediate action was taken once the breach was detected. Response protocols were activated to contain the situation and prevent further compromise.

“CAC promptly activated its response protocols and is working with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), relevant government agencies, and partners to assess the scope and impact,” the commission added.

The CAC further stated that it has already implemented containment measures while deploying additional layers of security to reinforce its systems against potential threats.

The development comes shortly after reports surfaced suggesting that millions of company records held by the commission may have been exposed in a cyberattack.

Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the breach and its implications, while efforts remain ongoing to strengthen system security and protect sensitive data.
