CAC Suspends Portal After Cyberattack in Nigeria

The Corporate Affairs Commission has temporarily suspended access to its company registration portal following a reported cyberattack that impacted its database and compromised millions of data points.

The announcement was made in a statement published on the Commission’s official X account, where it explained that the shutdown is part of efforts to stabilise and secure its digital infrastructure.

According to the CAC, the portal will remain unavailable for a short period, beginning from April 17 and expected to last until the early hours of April 20.

The Commission also revealed that it is working closely with the National Information Technology Development Agency to address the incident and strengthen its systems against further vulnerabilities.

In a related development, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission has initiated an investigation into the breach to determine its scope and potential impact on affected data.

Despite the nature of the incident, the CAC framed the temporary shutdown as part of a broader maintenance exercise aimed at improving service delivery.

“To serve you better, we will be carrying out scheduled maintenance on our portal this weekend, from 12:00 midnight today, 17th April 2026, to 6:00 a.m. on Monday, 20th April 2026.

“During this period, the portal may be temporarily unavailable,” CAC stated.

The development has raised concerns about data security and digital resilience, particularly given the scale of the reported breach.

However, authorities have indicated that coordinated efforts are underway to contain the situation and restore normal operations.
