Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has responded to allegations that records belonging to DAAR Communications PLC were manipulated on its database following a recent cyberattack.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commission firmly dismissed the claims, describing them as false and misleading. It maintained that although its system was targeted in a cyber incident, no company data was altered or compromised.
“The Commission wishes to state clearly that this allegation is false and misleading. No data of any company was manipulated, tampered with, or altered as a result of that incident.
“In view of the above, we urge media organizations to uphold the ethics of professional journalism by ensuring balanced reporting, verifying facts with relevant authorities before publication, and refraining from disseminating misleading information,” the Commission stated.
The CAC also clarified that the issues surrounding DAAR Communications are not linked to the cyberattack, noting that there has been an ongoing dispute among shareholders regarding the company’s ownership structure since 2024.
According to the Commission, this disagreement had already been formally brought to its attention prior to the recent incident.
While acknowledging that its database had previously been compromised, leading to a temporary suspension of company registration services, the Commission insisted that the integrity of corporate records remains intact.
