Luis Enrique has described Paris Saint-Germain’s thrilling 5-4 win over Bayern Munich as the most remarkable match he has experienced in his managerial career.
The UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg, played at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, lived up to its billing as a “final before the final,” delivering a high-tempo contest filled with goals, drama, and momentum swings.
Bayern Munich took an early lead when Harry Kane converted a penalty, putting the visitors ahead.
PSG responded strongly, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia leveling the score before João Neves gave the home side the advantage.
The visitors fought back through Michael Olise, who equalised, but PSG regained control when Ousmane Dembélé calmly converted from the penalty spot.
After the break, PSG appeared to pull away, with further goals from Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé extending their lead.
However, Bayern mounted a late comeback, as Dayot Upamecano and Luis Díaz both found the net to keep the tie finely balanced.
Speaking after the match, Enrique reflected on the extraordinary nature of the contest, highlighting the pace and intensity on display.
“I’ve never seen such an intensity and physical level. We have to congratulate everyone.
“We deserved to win, we deserved to draw and we deserved to lose today. It was a fantastic game.”
Looking ahead to the return leg at the Allianz Arena, Enrique made it clear that his team will adopt an attacking approach.
“I asked my staff how many goals we need to score at Allianz Arena to qualify… and the feeling is at least three.
“We will go to Munich with a clear idea: attack and win the game.
“It’s been the BEST match I’ve been in as a manager. No doubts.
“Congrats everyone! I’ve never seen a pace like that”.
With the tie still open after a dramatic first leg, the second meeting in Munich promises another high-stakes encounter as both teams battle for a place in the final.
