Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Monday hosted leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja, fueling fresh political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The delegation, which included the party’s North-West Vice Chairman, Mohammed Bakin, met with the former Kano State governor at his residence.
Sources indicate the visit was aimed at persuading Kwankwaso to join the NDC as preparations intensify for the next general election cycle.
The meeting comes amid growing speculation about Kwankwaso’s political future, particularly reports linking him with a possible alliance with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
Supporters of both figures recently unveiled the “OK Movement,” an initiative designed to build momentum around a potential partnership.
At the same time, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with which Kwankwaso has been associated, is grappling with internal leadership disputes that could impact its 2027 prospects.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in a case involving rival factions led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership lists and nominate candidates.
However, opposition parties, including factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), are pushing for an extension, arguing the timeline could disadvantage them.
