Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot believes Paris Saint-Germain are strong contenders to lift the UEFA Champions League trophy this season.
His comments followed Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to PSG at Anfield in the quarter-final second leg, a result that sealed a 4-0 aggregate elimination after the French side had already secured a first-leg advantage in Paris.
Ousmane Dembele proved decisive across both fixtures, delivering clinical finishing that underlined PSG’s attacking quality and control over the tie.
Reflecting on the result, Slot acknowledged both fortune and frustration in his team’s performances.
“We got much more than we deserved last week by only losing 2-0. What was also the same as last season was getting much less than we deserved at home,” Slot told Prime Video.
“We should have won. It’s also the quality of PSG that they don’t concede from the chances we had, and the finishing of Ousmane Dembele probably tells you why he won the (2025) Ballon d’Or and why Paris (PSG) won the Champions League last season and have a good chance to win it again.”
With this exit, Liverpool’s campaign is set to end without silverware, having also fallen short in domestic competitions.
