Troops Recovers Herder’s Body, 32 Cattle in Plateau

Troops operating under Operation Safe Haven, alongside local vigilante groups, have successfully concluded a search-and-rescue mission that led to the recovery of a missing herder’s body and several cattle in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident came to light through a report shared on Wednesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X. According to the report, the herder had been declared missing on April 13, prompting concern within the Ariri and Kwasha communities where he was last seen.

In response, security personnel organized a coordinated search operation across the affected areas. Their efforts eventually led to the tragic discovery of the herder’s lifeless body.

Alongside this, the team was able to recover 32 cattle alive. However, three others were found dead during the operation, indicating possible distress or conflict prior to the recovery.

Following the operation, both the remains of the deceased and the recovered livestock were handed over to leaders of the herding community for appropriate handling and next steps.

To prevent a recurrence and reassure residents, security forces have since increased patrol activities across the area, aiming to maintain peace and strengthen safety in the affected communities.
