Mohamed Salah has confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025–26 season, marking the close of an extraordinary chapter in the club’s history.
The announcement came on Tuesday through an emotional video shared on X, where the forward finally addressed growing speculation about his future. For many supporters, it was the confirmation they had been dreading the end of an era at Anfield.
“Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come,” Salah said in the video, adding that “This is the first part of my farewell: I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”
Since arriving from AS Roma in 2017, the 33-year-old has risen to become one of the Premier League’s most iconic players.
His remarkable tally of 255 goals in 435 appearances places him third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring chart, behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
Liverpool also released a statement acknowledging that Salah will depart when his current contract runs out.
Despite the announcement coming while the team is still chasing trophies this season, both player and club emphasized a shared commitment to finishing strongly.
In his message, Salah reflected on his deep connection to Liverpool, speaking with clear affection for both the city and its people.
“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life,” he said.
“Liverpool, it’s not just a football club. It’s a passion. It’s a history. It’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club.”
His journey at Liverpool has been nothing short of remarkable. After a challenging spell at Chelsea, he arrived with a point to prove and went on to deliver one of the most successful periods in the club’s modern history.
During his time, Liverpool secured multiple major trophies, including two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup, and two League Cups, alongside numerous individual honors such as four Premier League Golden Boots.
Salah paid tribute to those who shared the journey with him, particularly the fans who supported him throughout.
“I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present,” he said.
“And to the fans: I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It’s something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always,” he added.
He stated: “Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family.”
The club explained that Salah chose to make his decision public early out of respect for supporters, ensuring clarity about his future.
Even with his departure confirmed, the focus remains on the present. Liverpool highlighted that there is still much to play for this season, with plans to properly celebrate Salah’s contributions later when he officially says goodbye to Anfield.
Salah concluded his message with a heartfelt note to fans: “Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
