EPL: Mikel Backs Filipe Luís for Chelsea Job

Former Super Eagles skipper John Obi Mikel has weighed in on the managerial situation at Chelsea FC, backing his former teammate Filipe Luís as a strong contender for the role.

The discussion follows the recent dismissal of Liam Rosenior, who was let go after a run of poor results that left the club searching for a new direction. In the meantime, Calum McFarlane has been placed in charge on an interim basis.

As speculation continues over who will take over permanently, several names have emerged, including Cesc Fàbregas and Andoni Iraola. However, Mikel believes Filipe Luís offers a particularly compelling option.

Sharing his thoughts on his podcast, Mikel pointed to the Brazilian’s tactical approach and the style of football displayed by his team as key indicators of his managerial potential.

““I think for me, it’d be too early for Fabregas.

“On Filipe Luis, he is a fantastic manager and his team played fantastic football in the Club World Cup and had an objective of how they wanted to play.

“There was a clear structure, playing with purpose, that’s how you know someone can become a top manager.

“Maybe it’s too early, but of all the three managers mentioned, if they go with any of them, I’ll probably say Filipe Luis.”

Mikel’s endorsement highlights growing interest in emerging managerial talents, especially those who demonstrate a clear philosophy and tactical identity early in their careers.

As Chelsea continue their search for stability, the final decision on a permanent manager is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the club’s immediate future.
