Harry Maguire has expressed confidence in the progress made by Manchester United under Michael Carrick, stating that the team is now performing better both defensively and in attack compared to their time under Ruben Amorim.
The defender made the comments after playing a key role in United’s 2-1 win over Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday night.
The victory further strengthens the club’s push for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
United have shown improved consistency in recent matches, having also secured a 1-0 win against Chelsea in their previous fixture.
Against Brentford, the hosts took control of the game early, with Casemiro opening the scoring with a powerful header.
Benjamin Sesko added a second goal before halftime, giving United a comfortable lead. Brentford responded late through Mathias Jensen, but it was not enough to deny United all three points.
Reflecting on the team’s recent performances, Maguire pointed to a shift in results and overall balance.
“When Ruben Amorim was here, the games were 50/50… but we always ended up on the back of a defeat,” Maguire said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X.
He added, “Now it seems like it’s the other way around, where we’re a lot better in both boxes. We defend our box a lot better, and we’re managing to be clinical in the other box”.
With the latest win, Manchester United remain third on the table with 51 points, three ahead of Liverpool, whom they are set to face in their next match.
