EPL: Lampard Could Return to Chelsea – Nicky Butt

Former Manchester United midfielder, Nicky Butt has suggested that Frank Lampard could be a viable option for a return to Chelsea, as pressure continues to build on current manager Liam Rosenior.

Lampard previously managed the Blues between 2019 and 2021, spending about 18 months in charge of the club.

The 47-year-old is currently managing Coventry City, who are sitting comfortably at the top of the Championship with a nine-point lead.

Meanwhile, Rosenior has endured a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge since his arrival in January, with the team losing four consecutive matches across all competitions.

Those results have seen Chelsea knocked out of the Champions League by PSG and drop to sixth place in the Premier League standings.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Butt shared his thoughts on a possible return for Lampard.

“It wouldn’t be a stupid thing to go and get Frank Lampard back in charge of Chelsea for me. He’s done a great job at Coventry,” Butt said.

“He’s got a bit more experience now and he probably made a few mistakes the first time around.

“He would be a totally different manager now. I think Lampard would find it easier working with better players, it would be easier for him to get his messages across to more technical players.”
