Chelsea Confirm First Professional Contract for Dante Waite

Chelsea have confirmed that highly rated academy defender Dante Waite has signed his first professional contract with the club, underlining their confidence in one of the brightest prospects from the youth ranks.

Waite’s journey with the Blues began at Under-8 level after joining through Chelsea’s development centre. Since then, he has steadily progressed through the academy, establishing himself as one of the club’s standout young defenders.

During the 2024/25 season, the 17-year-old became a regular figure in the Under-18 squad despite still being a schoolboy. His leadership qualities were recognised when he was appointed captain, and he played an important role in helping the team win the Premier League South title.

Waite has also begun making his mark on the international stage. The defender has earned two appearances for England’s Under-18 team, featuring in matches against Greece and Cyprus.

After signing his maiden professional contract, the focus will now be on his next stage of development. Whether he earns opportunities with Chelsea’s senior squad under new head coach Xabi Alonso remains to be seen, but the deal reflects the club’s belief in his long-term potential.
