The New Nigeria People’s Party has unveiled Bala Mohammed as its new National Chairman, following the resignation of Ajuji Ahmed, who has now joined the African Democratic Congress.
The transition, which received approval from the party’s National Working Committee, comes at a time of heightened political realignments within opposition circles as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
The announcement was made in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, who described Mohammed as a seasoned administrator with the capacity to steer the party through a complex political landscape.
Johnson noted that Mohammed, a former National Organising Secretary from Kaduna State, brings valuable experience to the role at a critical time for the party.
He said, “The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party is pleased to announce the election of Bala Yunusa Mohammed as our new National Chairman.
“The NNPP takes this opportunity to formally acknowledge the departure of Dr Ajuji Ahmed, who has resigned his appointment to join the African Democratic Congress.
“On behalf of our national leadership, the National Executive Committee, and our teeming members, we thank Dr Ajuji Ahmed for his dedicated service. We recognise the contributions he made during his tenure and sincerely wish him the very best in his future political endeavours.”
The party explained that the leadership change comes at a critical period marked by economic challenges and rising political tension ahead of the next election cycle.
It expressed confidence that Mohammed’s emergence would help reposition the party, strengthen its internal structures, and improve its chances in future elections.
“Our democracy is under attack, but the NNPP remains a sanctuary for the hopes of the common man. Under the leadership of Honourable Bala, we are not just preparing for an election; we are preparing to salvage a nation.
“We have absolute confidence that our new chairman will steer this great party through these turbulent waters with integrity and courage. His emergence signals a unified front against the forces of regression and a renewed vigour to offer Nigerians the governance they truly deserve.
“We call on all party faithful and well-meaning Nigerians to rally behind the new leadership as we fortify our ranks. The journey to 2027 is a marathon, and the NNPP is now better positioned than ever to cross the finish line as the party of the people,” he added.
