2027 Elections: NNPP Sets May 26 for Primaries

The New Nigeria Peoples Party has fixed May 26 as the date for its primaries across all elective positions in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The party disclosed that the primaries will cover a wide range of offices, including seats in state Houses of Assembly, governorship positions, the National Assembly, and the presidency.

This was made known in a statement released in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, who explained that the party intends to adopt a consensus method of selection across all wards in the country.

According to him, the planned primaries have already been communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Johnson further disclosed that INEC recently conducted a verification exercise at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, confirming the legitimacy of its administrative and operational structures. He described the outcome as a significant endorsement of the current leadership.

“The seamless execution of this exercise serves as a definitive official validation of the Hon. Bala Mohammad-led National Working Committee, NWC.

“It effectively silences the delusions of grandeur harboured by expelled members and reaffirms our standing as the only recognised leadership of the NNPP,” he stated.

He also dismissed claims by expelled members challenging the authority of the party’s National Working Committee, criticising their reliance on court rulings.

“There is a subsisting judgment from the Federal High Court, Abuja, which clearly affirmed that these individuals are no longer members of the NNPP.

“By failing to bring this judgment to the attention of subsequent courts, they have deliberately withheld material facts to mislead the judiciary,” he said.

Johnson accused the group of attempting to sustain what he described as a failed political agenda through misleading tactics but expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would ultimately resolve the leadership dispute in favour of the current NWC.

He also called on Nigerians, particularly young people and professionals, to take part in the party’s ongoing membership registration drive, which is being conducted across 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas nationwide.
