Labour Party Announces Committees, Sets Dates for Congresses

The Labour Party (LP) has unveiled the list of chairmen and members of its electoral subcommittees as part of preparations for its ward, local government, and state congresses nationwide, leading up to its 2026 National Convention.

The announcement was made in a statement issued in Abuja by the Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman, Ken Asogwa. According to the statement, the subcommittees have been constituted to supervise and coordinate the congresses in their respective states.

The party had earlier released its timetable, with ward congresses scheduled for Thursday, April 23, local government congresses on Friday, April 24, and state congresses on Saturday, April 25.

The committees comprise experienced party members assigned to ensure that the processes are conducted in a credible, transparent, and orderly manner across the country.

A wide range of party stakeholders were named as chairmen of the subcommittees across various states, reflecting the party’s nationwide structure and preparation for internal elections.

In a message to the appointees, the National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, emphasised the importance of fairness and integrity in the conduct of the congresses.

She said, “I charge you to carry out your responsibilities with utmost fairness, transparency, and integrity. You should always uphold the Party’s core values of equal opportunity and social justice.

“I also want you to reflect these principles in the discharge of your duties. The credibility of the Labour Party must be upheld throughout the congress process.

“As you are aware, our National Convention will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Umuahia, Abia State. I want to assure all our members and supporters that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and successful convention.”

The congresses are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the party’s structure ahead of future elections, as the Labour Party continues to strengthen its internal processes and national presence.
