A public affairs analyst, Jabir Madaki, has cautioned Abba Kabir Yusuf over the implications of appointing a substantive deputy governor, describing the decision as pivotal to the administration’s legacy.
In a report titled “Government Integrity and Public Interest,” Madaki warned that the choice could significantly shape public perception of the government.
“Your deputy appointment will either define this administration with honour or lead to consequences that may be difficult to reverse,” he cautioned.
He also expressed concern over speculation that a candidate facing legal issues could be considered, warning that such a move may erode public confidence.
“Appointing a candidate facing unresolved corruption allegations would contradict the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability,” he said.
Madaki urged the governor to prioritise competence, integrity, and public interest in making the appointment.
