A member of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Yakubu Daniel, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further strengthening the ruling party’s hold on the state legislature.
Daniel, who represents Billiri East Constituency, officially announced his defection at the Government House in Gombe, where he was received by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya alongside other lawmakers.
With his move, the APC now has full dominance in the assembly, as he was the last remaining PDP member in the chamber.
Explaining his decision, Daniel cited a wave of earlier defections by opposition lawmakers, including members of the minority leadership, as well as the leadership style of the governor, which he described as people-oriented and widely accepted.
Governor Yahaya welcomed the development, describing it as a strong endorsement of his administration.
“This is a strong vote of confidence in our leadership, our policies and our inclusive style of governance. For the last remaining opposition member in the Assembly to take this step speaks volumes about the direction we are taking in Gombe State,” the governor said.
He added that the growing support for the party reflects public trust in both the state government and the national agenda of Bola Tinubu.
“The overwhelming support we are witnessing is not by chance. It is a product of the trust the people have in what we are doing here in Gombe, as well as the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu at the national level,” Yahaya added.
The governor further emphasized the party’s commitment to inclusive governance, unity, and development.
Daniel, in turn, pledged loyalty to the APC and promised to support its continued growth and consolidation across the state.
