Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has suggested that the results of the 2026 governorship races in Ekiti and Osun will be a critical indicator of the party’s standing before the 2027 general elections.
Oyintiloye, who previously served as a lawmaker, shared these views during a conversation with reporters on Sunday in Osogbo.
He emphasized that it is vital for the ruling party to claim victory in both states to ensure a strong position leading into the national elections in 2027.
According to him, “a landslide victory for the APC in the Ekiti governorship election slated for June 20 and the Osun governorship poll scheduled for August 15 would strengthen the party’s prospects in the next general election.”
The APC leader further noted that winning these two contests would bolster the anticipated re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
“The Ekiti and Osun elections will serve as a litmus test for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections in the country.
“The two are very crucial for the APC because they will be conducted a few months before the general elections. The party must win the two states,” Oyintiloye said.
He pointed out that succeeding in these states would boost the morale of party members and solidify the APC’s presence in the Nigerian political arena.
Oyintiloye highlighted the Osun governorship race as being especially important, noting the party’s goal to replace the current governor, Ademola Adeleke.
Attributing potential success to the unity of party leadership and effective planning, he voiced his belief that the party will come out on top in the state.
“We are confident of victory because the leaders of the party in the state, national leader, Chief Bisi Akande, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, the National Secretary of the party, Ajibola Basiru, and the state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, among others, are working tirelessly for the APC’s victory,” he said.
He also spoke highly of the APC’s candidate for the Osun governorship, Bola Oyebamiji, calling him a capable figure who enjoys broad support from both the party and the public.
Nevertheless, Oyintiloye urged any dissatisfied members to move past their differences, uphold the party’s authority, and join forces to secure a win for the APC in the upcoming polls
