The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has finalized its strategy for the 2027 elections, naming Jamilu Shaiyaku Gwamna as its consensus governorship candidate while effectively removing former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, from contention.
The decision was reached during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting chaired by the state’s party leader and Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
The gathering brought together a wide range of party figures, including governorship aspirants, National Assembly hopefuls, State Assembly contenders, members of the State Working Committee, and other influential stakeholders.
In a statement released by the Director-General (Press Affairs), Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the party explained that the adoption of a consensus candidate followed a series of consultations led by the governor. These engagements involved both senior party leaders and grassroots representatives.
According to the statement, the move is part of a broader effort to strengthen internal unity, reduce potential disputes, and present a cohesive front ahead of the elections.
Party insiders revealed that the consensus approach was not limited to the governorship race. It also extended to other elective positions across the state, with candidates agreed upon for the three senatorial districts, six House of Representatives seats, and all 24 State House of Assembly constituencies.
For the Senate, the party selected Mohammed Ahmadu Deba to represent Gombe Central, Jerry Damara for Gombe South, and Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for Gombe North.
In the House of Representatives category, the adopted candidates include Usman Bello Kumo (Akko), Inuwa Garba (Yamaltu/Deba), Ali Isa JC (Balanga/Billiri), Fatima Binta Bello (Kaltungo/Shongom), Saddam Bello (Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye), and Jamilu Shabewa (Dukku/Nafada).
