The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has openly declared its ambition to take control of Borno State in the 2027 general elections, signaling a bold move to challenge the current leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This position was made known in Maiduguri during the inauguration of the party’s newly appointed state executive members. Speaking at the event, the state chairman, Kolo Bukar, stated that the ADC is actively positioning itself to contest and win the governorship seat.
According to Bukar, the party’s decision is largely influenced by ongoing security concerns and what he described as shortcomings in governance across the state.
He maintained that the ADC is prepared to reshape the political direction of Borno, expressing confidence in the party’s grassroots connection and its understanding of the needs of residents in all 27 local government areas.
“We are going to change the political tide in 2027. Our party knows the people and we know how to unseat the ruling party in Borno State,” he said.
Bukar further linked the resurgence of attacks in parts of the North-East to governance issues, arguing that better leadership could significantly improve the situation. He assured that the ADC is developing policies aimed at addressing critical challenges such as insecurity, poverty, and unemployment.
Also speaking at the event, party leader Kashim Imam Ibrahim highlighted the party’s commitment to improving the quality of life for citizens. He stressed the importance of responsive governance and policies that directly impact the welfare of the people.
Despite acknowledging internal challenges within the party, ADC leaders expressed optimism about their prospects, stating that they are working to strengthen their structure ahead of the 2027 elections and position themselves as a viable alternative to the ruling party.
