President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after spending about a week in Lagos, where he combined official engagements with the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the presidential aircraft departed the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, at 6:44 pm on Wednesday.
The President had earlier arrived in the country from the United Kingdom on Friday following what the presidency described as a “historic state visit.”
While in Lagos, Tinubu participated in Eid-el-Fitr prayers at Dodan Barracks, marking the end of Ramadan.
He also held a series of political and diplomatic meetings, including hosting 23 state governors such as Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, in what was seen as part of ongoing consultations with state leaders.
In addition, the President met with a delegation from the European Union, although details of the discussions were not made public.
Members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), a key political body within the ruling party, were also received during his stay.
Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Lagos to brief Tinubu on his recent trip to Borno State, following a suicide bombing incident in the northeast, highlighting the administration’s continued focus on security.
At the airport before his departure, several top officials were present, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, and other government officials and party leaders.
Tinubu’s return to Abuja marks the end of his extended stay in Lagos, which combined governance activities with the observance of the Islamic holiday.
His earlier visit to the United Kingdom was his first official trip to the country since assuming office in 2023.
