Tension rose in Abuja on Friday as journalists scrambled for accreditation ahead of the convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) taking place in the nation’s capital.
The situation unfolded at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, specifically inside Kano Hall, where more than 100 journalists both accredited and non-accredited gathered in an attempt to obtain access tags for the event.
The disruption began earlier when the official overseeing the accreditation process announced that only a limited number of tags were available. He explained that most of the tags allocated to APC correspondents had already been issued, leaving only a handful for others.
This sparked frustration among journalists, many of whom criticized the process as poorly organised and lacking transparency. The atmosphere soon grew tense, with heated exchanges and visible agitation as reporters pushed to secure access.
According to reports, the situation escalated quickly, prompting the deployment of officers from the Nigeria Police Force to maintain order and prevent further disruption.
The incident has since generated debate, with affected journalists urging APC organisers to improve coordination and ensure a more transparent accreditation process in future events.
As of the time of filing the report, party officials had not released any official statement regarding the development.
