TCN Declares Force Majeure on Ikeja West–Osogbo Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared force majeure on the Ikeja West–Osogbo 330kV transmission line after a severe rainstorm caused significant damage.

In a statement issued Sunday, TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah said the line tripped during the storm on April 16 due to a fault traced to a section about 14.9 kilometres from the Ikeja West end.

“Further inspection by TCN maintenance crews revealed that Tower No. 515 had collapsed during the storm, with the structure giving way at its midsection,” the statement partly read.

The company said repair efforts are already in progress, with engineers dismantling the damaged tower and preparing for reconstruction.

“We assure that we will work assiduously to restore flexibility and redundancy in that corridor, as an alternative line is still in service evacuating bulk power. Updates will be provided as work progresses,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, TCN also announced the upgrade of the Apapa Road Transmission Substation in Lagos, where two new 60MVA transformers have been energised.

The upgrade increases the facility’s capacity to 180MVA, improving electricity supply to several areas within the Eko Electricity Distribution Company network.
