TCN Announces Ibadan Power Outage for April 9

Residents in parts of Oyo State should prepare for a temporary power disruption as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has scheduled a one-day outage.

The planned blackout, set for April 9, 2026, is to allow maintenance work on a 40MVA transformer located in Jericho, Ibadan. TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday.

During the maintenance period, electricity supply by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be interrupted across several areas. Communities expected to be affected include UCH, Yemetu, Oremeji, Railway Quarters, Mokola, Roundabout, Bashorun, Cocoa House, Secretariat, Onireke, Fan Milk, and Bank Road.

According to Mbah, the exercise is part of routine efforts to maintain the efficiency and reliability of the power infrastructure.

“The maintenance exercise is to enable TCN crew to undertake routine checks on the transformer to ensure optimal performance.

“TCN apologizes for any inconvenience this will cause to electricity customers in the affected areas,” the statement reads.
